Enough Is Enough: The Trump Russian Connection

As we move into the second month of the Trump presidency, the administration has yet again been plagued with more allegations that people connected to the Trump presidential team had inappropriate communications with members of the Russian government. As discussed in the Feb 14th post, “Power Over Country: Republicans Refuse To Investigate Trump”, there are currently several concurrent investigations taking place in the FBI, intelligence community, and the U.S. Congress attempting to answer questions about Russia’s interference with the recent Presidential election. Multiple intelligence agencies have already confirmed that Russians did in fact hack the Democratic National Committee, Hillary Clinton’s email server, and actively disseminated fake news stories in an attempt to help Donald Trump win the election.

Now we are learning that multiple members of the Trump team had contact with Russian officials leading up to the Presidential election. It was only a few weeks ago that Trump’s National Security Advisor General Michael Flynn was forced to resign after it was revealed that he had a conversation with the Russian ambassador where he reassured the Russians that once Trump took office his administration would reverse sanctions placed on Russia by the Obama administration as punishment for the Russians interfering with the U.S. Presidential election.

Saying that, today we learned that Trump’s pick for Attorney General, Jeff Sessions, is reported to have also had contact with the Russians during the Presidential campaign. And like General Michael Flynn, Sessions also lied to Congress about his conversations with the Russians. During his confirmation hearing, Sessions (on the record) denied having any contact with the Russians. It was only today that Sessions was forced to admit that he did indeed have contact with the Russian ambassador. So if you are keeping count so far that is two Trump administration officials who first said they had no contact with the Russians, only to be discovered later that both actually did have contact with the Russians. Absolutely unbelievable!!

This is stunning news and calls into question whether Jeff Sessions is capable of overseeing the Justice Department’s investigation into the Trump/Russian connection. This evening both Republican and Democratic members of Congress are calling for a special prosecutor to be assigned to this case so that the American public can have confidence that a fair and impartial inquiry will take place. No matter what side of this issue you fall, all Americans should be outraged and concerned about circumstances surrounding the Trump/Russian connections.

I for one don’t think all of this is coincidental. I don’t think it was coincidental that J.D. Gordon, a Trump campaign official, met with Russians during the Republican convention and subsequently advocated for taking anti-Russian language out of the Republican platform, I don’t think it was a coincidence that Jeff Sessions happened to speak with the Russian ambassador during the run-up to the Presidential election, I don’t think it was a coincidence that Trump’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner, met with a Russian official at Trump tower, I don’t think it was a coincidence that Michael Flynn met with the Russian ambassador about sanctions, and lastly, I don’t think it’s a coincidence that the Russians happened to hack the DNC and Hillary Clinton’s email server and propagate fake news which Trump official then retweeted. If all this seems like a coincidence to you…wake up!!
